Point Broadband to Begin Multi-Million Dollar Wireless Upgrade in Michigan

by

STANTON, MI (Oct. 17, 2022) – We are happy to share that a multi-million-dollar project to install state-of-the-art 5G equipment on many of our wireless towers will begin soon. This replacement project is part of the federal “Huawei Rip and Replace” program.

In 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandated that all Huawei (also known as WiMax) equipment be replaced under a federal program called “Rip and Replace.” Point Broadband completed the necessary applications by the deadlines, and we’ve been waiting for approval to begin the replacement process. During this time of transition, it’s been difficult to maintain the tower equipment because we are not allowed to purchase replacement parts under the FCC mandate.

This is exciting news, but this upgrade will take time. While some of you may see improvements within the next few months, some customers may not see an improvement for up to 18 months.

This isn’t the news we want to deliver or that we know our affected customers want to hear. We strive to provide an exceptional experience for our customers, and unfortunately, we have been unable to provide service that meets our collective standard in some of our wireless markets due to equipment that needs replacing.

We will continue to update affected customers of our progress and provide a timeline as we know more. Please know we are working as fast as we can to complete this critical project.
